Membership of the Green Party is soaring, both locally and nationally. Here in Westmorland and Lonsdale we were formed in 2014, have 170 members and a growing list of supporters. To join us just click on the 'Join' button above.
In 2015 Westmorland and Lonsdale Green Party stood its first parliamentary candidate for over 30 years. We stood candidates in all wards in the 2015 local elections and in the 2017 county council elections.
In 2018's elections we become the official opposition in Kendal North, coming second in the vote for District Councillors and winning more than five times as many votes as we did in the previous, 2014, elections. We came significantly ahead of both Labour and the Conservatives. We were also successful with Chris Rowley's election to represent the Kendal North ward on Kendal Town Council. Before this, all Kendal Town Councillors had been Liberal Democrats. In May 2019 we came a close second in Kendal Town ward of the district council elections.
People are realising increasingly that the Green Party stands for much more than the environment. Fundamentally, we’re a party campaigning for social justice and equality. A party that believes our society should be run according to the needs and wishes of its people and communities, not powerful and unaccountable corporations. A party that is working towards a better, more equal, more sustainable, and healthier society.
